Every now and then, my phone has unexpectedly heat up and drain my battery. The latest just happened recently. I have had adaway installed for some years, but this is the first year I have noticed this issue. During the time before it heat up today, I was just looking at some online articles. I have noticed this happen when I am not using it and nothing intensive should be going on. I am not rooted, so I only found what was going on by looking at gsam and some of my settings, which pointed to adaway.
The last 2 times this has happened (including today), I force closed adaway and re-opened it and everything returned to normal shortly after. Setting's mobile data usage says adaway hasn't even used 1 meg of data in the last month. Setting's memory usage says adaway averages 48 megs, with 57 being the maximum. Setting's battery usage says adaway used 30% of the battery in the last 48 minutes. Battery usage wise, adaway usually has a very small footprint, like a few percents.
I barely open the app itself unless it is to check if there is updates to the sources. I have not added any custom blocks. I may turn the vpn on/off occasionally, like if I want to get an ad benefit from a game.
Expected Behavior
To not heat up my phone and drain my battery.
Steps To Reproduce
Use adaway enabled like normal.
Issue isn't constant and seems to happen randomly. I think its been a month since the last time this happened, and it happened earlier this year.
Device Configuration
AdAway version: 6.1.1
Ad-blocker mode: vpn
Device: Pixel 6
Android version: 14
Root version: none

Hi,
I have a similar issue. Added it here as is the newest in the category battery.
I have observed that that my phone is getting quite warm on different occasions.
Today I checked an is AdAway 50% for 45 mins background:
Observations
AdAway was in state starting.
Workaround:
What helped is to press the pause button and then same button to start again. "Instantly" the temperature went down.
Is there a way to provide you a log for debugging?
Is there an existing issue for this?
