This issue is a tracking issue, I am working on some areas of governance and exploring topics (which is not on GitHub or any public space yet). I attempt for these to be neutral but they are obviously my own ideas written based on my own interpretations. Nothing is finalized at all--these are just topics and anything that may be introduced would follow the ordinary route that previous governance proposals have taken, including a discussion phase.

It isn't possible to identify the individual stake requirements that each role should require at this stage, however there should be a minimum value to ensure that all workers on the platform have some amount of stake.

Origin:

  • This was introduced as a proposal about 9 months ago on Joystream's incentivized testnet: https://testnet.joystream.org/#/proposals/178
  • This was introduced because no one was using stake as it was intended on the testnet, so it did not reflect a mainnet situation but was introduced simply to start getting people to use stake more consistently.
  • The values were defined as: Minimum Lead Stake - 500000 JOY, Minimum Worker Stake - 100000 JOY

Limitations of Origin:

  • It wasn't adequately enforced (some WGs and some leads were hired after this existed without honoring the minimum stake requirements)
  • It was artificially set low in order to allow for new participants to easily join WGs on the testnet
  • The values were never adjusted or reviewed
  • To my knowledge, there was no malicious actions or any instance of any worker or lead being slashed of their stake, so the purpose of having stake (to put up collateral that could be taken in the event of a warning or firing) was never put to the test
