I explained a bit about this initiative here:
https://github.com/Joystream/marketing/issues/203#issuecomment-1074458228

Basically, I'm creating the initial structure for the Research part of Research & Development.

The current scope of the R&D system includes:

  • Categorizing everything as well as possible
  • Identifying whether items are valuable
  • Identifying whether items should have additional research
  • items are almost anything including competitors, projects, platforms, protocols, DAOs, wallets, tokens, video platforms, web2 & web3 projects, Twitter accounts, dApp viewers, lists, governance situations or examples, identity systems, decentralized name systems, off-chain KYC solutions, Polkadot ecosystem projects, parachain winners, cross-chain projects and many, many others

Goal:

  • To identify as much as possible of "what is out there" beyond Joystream
  • To categorize and build an easy database, that is wide in scope
  • To develop a way to identify the most valuable potential items
  • To build extensive lists of places where the project can be listed
  • To help guide development or implementation of features on Joystream in the future
  • To ensure our DAO governance, users and everyone involved can get access to rich information
