Perhaps use English and the put abbreviation in brackets?

e.g.
English - United States (en_US)

Then it would be easier for a non-programmer user to understand

For example, a Chinese user may not understand the meaning of "Simplified Chinese", so 'zh_cn' should be displayed as '简体中文' or '中文 (中国)', not in English.
