It does not appear that Zola is replacing relative URLs with absolute URLs when building the Atom feed XML. (This appearance was confirmed by looking at their template!) In doing some further research, though, it appears that we can use their get_url function to define paths for images, and that should translate into an absolute URL that will work both on the site and in the Atom feed.
My intent is to test this theory, then provide a PR that updates the image URLs in the Essays section.
