Difference between patch viewport and git format-patch

Hi,

I recently realized that what is shown in the patch viewport in lazygit is not necessarily equal to what is stored in the git commit (like saved by git format-patch).

Is the patch viewport diff created by some special git command / option?
Could I create patches (git format-patch) which will look equal?
Or the other way around, could I configure the patch viewport to show exactly what git would produce as a patch?
