What happened?

I don't have a bug to report, I'm just very grateful! I have a pi running rasperry pi os (not hifiberry os) + a hifiberry digi+ sending audio via TOS cable to a standalone hardware dac and airplay is working wonderfully.

Had a wee bit of teething trouble thinking that there was no audio at first. However upon further investigation it was just really, really, really quiet. Thankfully the ignore_volume_control parameter in /etc/shairport-sync.conf sorted me right out. (Might be worth a quick note in either the readme or "finish setting up" page in case anyone else stumbles across the same thing with a similar setup?)

Thank you for building such a wonderful thing. I can tell that a great deal of hard work went into this beautiful project. Such detailed yet concise documentation too. Please keep up the outstanding work ❤️

System Information.

I have a pi running rasperry pi os (not hifiberry os) -> a hifiberry digi+ -> sending audio via TOS cable -> a standalone hardware dac -> standalone amp & speakers

For anyone who stumbles across this issue wondering exactly what I did to set up my system:

  1. Follow the hifiberry instructions here https://www.hifiberry.com/docs/software/configuring-linux-3-18-x/, also the linux 5.4 and higher bit
  2. Follow the shairport-sync readme
  3. Change this config in /etc/shairport-sync.conf (leave everything else unchanged)
general =
{
        ignore_volume_control = "yes";
};

alsa =
{
      output_device = "hw:0";
};
  1. Enable the shairport-sync service and reboot

Many thanks for your kind words. It's really great to know that people -- apart from me! -- are enjoying Shairport Sync!

Let me think about how best to incorporate your suggestions in the documentation.

bump! Thanks @mikebrady for substantial new features - I'm very glad I can use Airplay2 devices, and the new nqptp with reduced privileges is a huge improvement!
