Homework

  • I took the time to write a good, descriptive issue title
  • I read nativefier --help and API.md, no existing option fits my needs.
  • I checked CATALOG.md for community suggestions & workarounds.
  • I searched existing issues, open & closed. Yes, my feature request is new.
  • I'm running the latest version. Yes, the feature I'm requesting isn't in it.

Problem statement

Users currently face cumbersome manual installation and removal processes for applications created with Nativefier. This approach can be confusing and less user-friendly, especially for individuals unfamiliar with command-line operations.

The proposed feature aims to enhance Nativefier by introducing built-in installation and uninstallation functionality. With this enhancement, users will seamlessly install and uninstall Nativefier-created applications without the need for manual steps.

Motivation & context

The motivation behind this feature request arises from the desire to simplify the deployment and management of Nativefier applications. By incorporating installation and uninstallation commands directly into Nativefier, users will experience a more user-friendly and streamlined process.

Additionally, I have developed a complementary nativefier-manager shell-script that addresses this issue through a Bash script. The nativefier-manager script offers installation and removal functionalities for Nativefier applications on Linux and Mac OS platforms (not tested on Mac OS).

However, integrating these capabilities into Nativefier itself would provide an official and standardized solution, benefiting all users of the Nativefier project.

This feature has the potential to attract a wider audience and improve overall user satisfaction with Nativefier. It aligns with the project's goals of simplifying the creation and management of desktop applications from web content, making the tool more accessible to users of varying technical backgrounds.
