Came here to discuss the exact same idea haha. Basically once a v1 torrent is downloaded you could automatically generate a v2 or hybrid torrent. Ideally the sha256 hash could be generated while downloading instead of while rechecking. The v1 and v2 are separate swarms but the v2 swarm could merge files from different torrents releases. And with hybrid torrents they are effectively merged. You could even automatically scan a directory with many files to generate sha256 hashes and start (re)sharing them. This could in theory revive dead torrents. This only works of course if the v2 hashes of old torrents are known. Is there a protocol that if you look for a v1 magnet link you could also download the upgraded hybrid torrent and not just the v1 torrent? For some reason there is very little interest in v2. Instead it almost seems like there is some pushback and fud about it. |

Hello,
I would like to know if it is possible to convert v1 torrent to hybrid torrent?
I think the best thing about BitTorrent v2 is that it assigns an identifier to each file, now there are too many files being repackaged over and over again.
If the v1 torrent can be converted to a hybrid torrent, this allows older files to benefit as well, and some torrents that were thought to be dead will be revived.
