Hmm, my understanding is that that should work. Could you provide an example JSON log that fails to decode? |

Thanks for the reply - I wasn't trying to convert from JSON, but from metrics to log then back. Here's more details to make it clearer. So I just ingest The error occurs in the transform that tries to convert them back again.

Like I said before, the This is obv just a demo that is of no practical value and, like I said, I don't think I need to do this anymore anyway, but felt it was supposed to work, tho did not. |

@james-stevens I added #20494 related to this, because it seems the problem here is simply that log_to_metrics has a strict list of metric types it supports, which does not include |

I have a metrics source which I convert to log format with the transform
metric_to_log
. I can now save the metrics to files as JSON and that works fine, but if I try & convert them back to metrics usinglog_to_metric
& settingall_metrics: true
they will not convert.I just get error messages saying the
log
field is missing. The documentation also says the
metrics
property is ignored ifall_metrics: true
, but themetrics
property option is still mandatory, so it's not clear what it should be set to - I went withmetrics: []
.I'm not sure I actually need to do this anymore, but it also seemed to me it should have worked.
