Not sure if it's relevant but the self-update feature does not work on Apple Silicon chipsets due to the unsigned code. There is a caveat about this issue in the cask.

It appears that
MarkTextdoes indeed support self-updates. Enabling theauto_updatesfeature will help prevent conflicts and is generally recommended for this type of scenario.
