This is my RPM package for mu and its sister project, the mu4e Emacs mail
client. This is a little different from the existing RPM packaging in the
upstream contrib directory of mu, mostly I’ve tried to modernize the RPM
package.
The spec file will build three packages: mu-mail, mu-guile, and
emacs-mu4e.
You almost certainly want to install the mu-mail and emacs-mu4e packages.
The mu-guile is a little more special purpose, and really only useful if you
want to write Guile Scheme scripts to interact with mu.
You can find the packages I’ve built on my Fedora Copr. Just follow the instructions there and set it up as you would any other COPR repository.
The process isn’t any different from any other package. For the uninitiated, the process is roughly like this:
# download upstream tarball, patches, etc.
$ spectool -g -R mu.spec
# ensure you have all build dependencies
$ sudo dnf builddep mu.spec
# build srpm and binary rpms
$ rpmbuild -ba mu.spec
# now you should have srpms and binary rpms
$ ls -l ~/rpmbuild/SRPMS/mu-mail*.srpm
$ ls -l ~/rpmbuild/RPMS/x86_64/mu-*.rpm
# OPTIONAL: install an rpm
$ sudo dnf install ~/rpmbuild/RPMS/x86_64/mu-WHATEVER-RPM-YOU-WISH.rpm
